As well as selling Bold Beasts books at this here lovely website, we also sell copies at a number of independent bookstores around the UK. In this series of blogs, we take a look at each of them in a little more detail. First up, let’s take a look at News from Nowhere in Liverpool.

Our native city of Liverpool has no shortage of attractions, which draw tourists from all over the world, all year round. Whether it’s Beatles tours or an LFC-related pilgrimage, there really is something for everyone. However, if you’re willing to dig a little past the main tourist attractions, you’ll find something truly special.

Situated opposite St Luke’s church, known to locals at the “bombed-out-church” on account of the damage it took during WWII, you’ll find Bold Street – a downward-sloping street full of thriving independent businesses, from wholefoods stores and designer shoe shops to restaurants and coffee hangouts. About halfway down the hill, bookworms will find a true treasure – the much-loved independent bookstore News from Nowhere.

News from nowhere sells a variety of books, almost all of which have overtly political content. They’re certainly not afraid of being called a ‘radical’ bookstore – in fact, they thrive on that label! However, if you make your way to the back of the shop, you will see that NFN also has a great section of children’s books, from dozens of different authors. This includes – yup, you guessed it – all of the Bold Beasts books, as you can see below.

Not only does NFN offer a wide array of book titles, but it also has a mini play area where your little ones can enjoy them. The building also houses Next to Nowhere, a DIY events venue situated downstairs. The venue plays host to a plethora of different arts and musical events, from punk gigs to poetry readings. It’s great that a shop like News from Nowhere is involved in the local arts scene in this way, giving local artists a platform from which to tell their own story.
